Phase I fundraising enabled the West Bend School District to install a state-of-the-art solar heating system with matching funds from a Focus on Energy grant our team found. The District took this application, and through it and our fundraising, was able to install the system on Feb, 2011. This fund drive resulted in significant immediate operational cost savings at NO COST TO TAXPAYERS.. The return on investment isn't 4-5 years--it was immediate for the districts operating costs.
The solar heating system is active and works every day to save budget costs. Now, we are at the last piece of our fund drive to assure the pool is saved by the district for 15 years:
High efficiency lighting fixtures are needed due to the fact that the pool still uses old incandescent lighting ballasts from decades ago. New "green" flourescent ballasts will be over twice as energy efficient and last for decades longer. The cost of the new lighting system is $58,000.
Once this immediate need is complted, longer-term project goals include:
1. Low flow shower heads in the locker rooms ($1,000)
2. A pool cover to retain heat during the night when the pool is not used
3. Facility painting ($38,000) which hasn't been done in 20 years.
4. Energy efficient pump motor replacements (when needed)
5. High efficiency air handling equipment---a significant portion of which would need to be completed whether the space was a pool or not
Services, products or funds are accepted and tax deductable. Thank you for your support of the West Bend Aquatics Center!!!
